The NASW Mississippi Chapter has suffered the loss of our President
Claire Nowlin. Claire died around 1:00 a.m. at St. Dominic
Hospital in Jackson, MS on January 10, 2007.
Claire
Nowlin wrote the following campaign statement for her election in 2002,
and we would like to share that again with you now.
"Claire
Nowlin, ACSW, LCSW, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Christian and active
member of First United Methodist Church, Brandon where I volunteer in
youth ministry. Director of Social Service at The Baptist
Children's Village for 30 years; 2001 Peer Reviewer of the Year for the
Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services; NASW member
since 1967; served several prior terms on NASW Board; Annual Conference
Registration Committee Chair; active on Hinds County MAP Team; active in
Mississippi Association of Child Care Agencies. Committed to
combining my faith and my professional practice particularly in advocacy
for children, youth and families."
